Was there a car you absolutely had to have, that you did get?

As in, you saw a car, and you just had to find out more. You didn't know if it ran, what problems it had, or anything like that, but you knew it had to be yours? You thought it would be impossible to get, too many problems, too expensive, whatever, but it worked out.

I had that once with my J30. I saved up for a little while to afford the down payment and the insurance. I was so happy when I got it. All of my other cars came relatively easy, no real issues or anything like that trying to get them for the most part.

Until now. We stumbled across, fittingly, another Infiniti, this one an I30, and I can get it for $800. I posted about it before. But, saving up the money when you have infinitely (no pun intended) more expenses and so on is much more difficult. But I think I'm in love with the car, from the pictures I've seen, videos I've watched, and information I've researched, and I will get it. She will be mine. Oh yes, she will be mine.

Anyone else ever have this? The want is just too great to deny, and it all works out?

Yes sir indeed, I first laid eyes on the 370z nismo waaaay before I even could afford it. I even went to dealers and test drove the non-nismo z, and I just fell for it. Almost 5 Years later I was able to buy one, and I'm head over heals for it. It keeps breaking my wallet, but lets gloss over that.

After many times of my GTP trying to either steal my money or set me on fire, I knew something had to change.

I work at a dealership and saw a Charger R/T come in on trade at one of our sister stores. I asked for more info and was told that there was already a deposit on it and that it looked like it was already gone. I then began to pester and pester until one day. That day the car was sitting at our building before I got to work and knew I was going home in a Charger. Never mind the fact that this was the beginning of winter with what ended up being the snowiest winter on record with some of the baddest tires I'd ever seen on a trade in and a tie rod knock, I knew this was going to be mine!

Yeah, I have a mental illness. THE 96,98,00 all had the head gasket issue so got ride of them, traded the 02 for an '05 STS (the RWD one). didn't need a car for a while, sold the '05, which honestly didn't car much for. it's eh, I dunno something about it was just off. Then i just picked up the '04. It needs some interior work and a respray would be nice. mechanically it's mint. got it in july with 89k has 95 now. need to save up for a 100k tune up. Then hoping I get a decent tax return to have the interior and stuff spruced up in the spring.

They are just such great riding cars, and the Northstar is just such a fantastic engine. I love it!

Ugh, headgaskets on those Northstars. My mom got a '96 Sedan DeVille with under 100k miles for $400 with blown heads. Got them fixed and it was running great, until my stepdad's idiot brother borrowed it, and ended up blowing the engine. They had to junk it just because he didn't have the time to fix or replace it. But those cars are so smooth, and the engines really are great.

Yeah and those head gasket repair jobs were like $2k! hence why i just ditched them. But anything after 2000 is safe with the new bolts. Hope to take this one up over 200k which is why i want to invest in fixing some issue. the last owner was wheel chair bound and he'd just toss it in the car, soo many things broken off or ripped. But hey only paid 3500 for it! haha

Yes, from the time I was a little kid, I always wanted a Beetle, so my first car at 16 was an orange Super Beetle. Also, I have a thing for big American landyachts, and had always liked the styling GM's last gen big Cadillacs from the time they first came out in '93, so after a year of searching for one in a good color combo, I finally bought a Fleetwood in college.

Don't own either of them now, but would certainly be glad to again if garage/driveway space allowed. Except I would go for a late '60s standard Beetle and also look harder for a Fleetwood with lower mileage and no canvas top.

This isn't exactly seeing a car and wanting it, but deciding I wanted to do something car related and just taking the plunge...

A friend and I decided we wanted to field a Lemons team and after 2 days of talking about it, with no teammates in mind, no money, and time being pretty scarce we were driving home our very own $400 Mustang. I'm so glad we decided to just go ahead and buy a car as soon as we got the idea to do it, I'm pretty sure we would never have followed through if we didn't make the first poor decision so quickly.

My Corvair, actually. I didn't know I wanted one until I found it on Craigslist, and then it was ON. I had been looking for a car for weeks, didn't really fall in love with anything, but as soon as I saw that dull red car with it's shiny blue door, I knew I had to have it. I sent the guy an email at like 945 in the evening, and then a text in case he didn't get my email. He texted me back at 545 the next morning, sent over another picture or two (unprovoked, which is a first), and told me to call him at 2pm. I was in the middle of a job at 2, I'd call in a few minutes, but then he called me. Said like 35 people had contacted him on the car since he posted it (an hour before I texted him), and I told him I'd be there at 7 with a trailer.

Now it's in my driveway with a broken throttle linkage. Good times!

Yes!

I never intended to get a Mach at all. It's always been one of my favorite Mustang's. I saw a few get close to my price range, but all were beat up so I stopped looking at those before I made any really bad decisions.. Then I just happened to stumble upon this beauty on eBay. After a few sleepless and anxious nights there was a Mach 1 in my driveway. Still unbelievable considering all of the GT's and V6's in that price range were abused. Never thought it would work out, but everything just came together.

All of my car purchases have been a bit like this, but my Volvo 850R has definitely been the most extreme case. I didn't know a thing about them when I saw it for sale, but it was local, fast, and cheap, so I thought I'd take a look. Despite the faded paint, suspiciously damp footwells, well-worn interior, and interstellar mileage, I knew that it had to be mine from the moment I saw it. Taking it for a test drive and feeling DAT BOOST only confirmed the matter.

Even when it broke down on said test drive and refused to start again, I still couldn't quite let it go – I went home and started researching obsessively, trying to work out what could have been the problem. I just couldn't shake it from my mind, so, a few days and a bit of negotiation later, I became the proud owner of a dead car, with no idea what was wrong with it, or really much of an idea what other work it would need.

Thankfully, I lucked out, and a quick repair to the engine wiring harness had it back up and running. It's still by no means perfect, but a good polish and a few junkyard parts have it in much better shape than when I bought it. I'm so glad that I took the plunge – not only was it a ludicrous amount of car for the money, but in many ways, it's the perfect car for me: a fast, sharp-handling station wagon that's simple enough to fix myself, comfortable for long trips, and makes a wonderful sound when you give it the works. I plan on keeping it for a long while.

Haven't got it yet but when it was announced and I started seeing the pictures, I thought "man, this thing is awesome." Then they said it was going to be in the $60k range and I was like "hmm... that's right on the verge of what I might have a prayer of affording."

Now, I'm saving as much money as I can to make a huge down payment, I might even sell my race car, so that I can buy one.
